Our couch came with pillows. I hated them. Hate is a strong word, but why in the name of all that is holy do furniture stores throw pillows in with couches? The odds of someone liking the couch and the damn pillows are slim. Why must they do this? Hmm? HMMMM!? Ahem. Sewing pillow covers seemed the obvious answer. It just took me five months to get around to it.
Or, I could have donated the pillows and bought new ones. Hush.
I used this tutorial from Hey There, Home and a few truly hideous fabric remnants. (That’s my secret. I dig through remnants at any store that sells fabric and will buy anything that is both A.) hideous and B.) 1 or more yards in length.
This tutorial has you cut the fabric the same exact size as the pillow, and lemme tell you. This does work, but the fit is tight. After the first pillow cover I added an inch all the way around to the next two I sewed. Nevertheless, it’s a good tutorial. Easy peasy, and it took me less than 30 minutes to make each pillow cover.
Why the orange and greeny goodness? Because a lot of the stuff hanging on the walls has green and orange/red in it. The pillows, to borrow a phrase from The Big Lebowski, really tie the room together.
See you later!
